Please make sure your load is covered and secured. A tarp works best! For large items a tie down strap is acceptable. We can access a $10 fee for pickup trucks, and a $50 fee for semi trucks and trailers!
We will ask you to separate metal from waste. If you have any freon units we do not charge for the weight of the unit. This will save you time and money!
Unfortunately there are items that get disposed that look as if you can take them and reuse them. We do not allow any scavenging!
We do not accept hazardous waste of any kind! For example; batteries (lead acid, lithium ion, nickel cadmium), oil, paint, etc.
When the wind blows 20 mph or higher we do not accept loose waste! Please call the landfill on high wind days before coming on site. We will accept bagged garbage and anything that is to heavy to blow.
There are a lot of hazards at the landfill for your pets to get into to! Please keep your pets in your vehicle at all times while on landfill property.
We do accept ashes. They must be cold to the touch!
Compost is sold on a first come first serve basis. We try to make as much compost as we can but it is a long process and we do not always have some available for sale. Please contact the landfill for availability.
Please stay in your vehicle while on the scale. We will come out to you. The scale can be slick!
The Johnson County Solid Waste District was formed in 2002. It is a Special District of Johnson County Wyoming. We accept solid waste, construction waste, & green waste. We also accept tires, freon units, & metal.

We do recycle! We work closely with the City of Buffalo/Johnson County Recycling Center to divert cardboard, Styrofoam, & ferrous metals from the landfill.
The City of Buffalo/Johnson County Recycling Center is located at 550 Butte Street in Buffalo, WY. They accept #1 & #2 plastic, paper, cardboard, tin, aluminum, textiles, & glass. The recycle centers phone number is (307)217-0320
Yes we do! We accept grass clippings, manure, hay, straw at no charge. We compost these items and sell them back to the public. $30 per ton if we load it with our front end loader. $20 per ton if you hand load it.
The Clear Creek Conservation District in conjunction with the Johnson County Landfill puts on a Household Hazardous Waste Day each year. It is the first Saturday in June. We ask that you wait to dispose of it that day. It is no cost to you. If you need to dispose immediately and cannot wait there are companies that can help you. Call the landfill for information.
Yes we do. All animal offal/whole animal carcasses are subject to the $75 per ton tipping fee.
Branches under 8" in diameter are free. Branches larger than 8" in diameter are subject to the $75 tipping fee.
Yes we do! Trailer houses cost $575 each. All freon units need to be removed and are subject to the $25 fee per unit. All household chemicals and food stuffs need to be removed. Call the landfill to setup a time to bring them in.
Yes we do! All waste is subject to the $75 per ton tipping fee.
We accept non-friable asbestos only. An appointment needs to be made 24 hours in advance of delivery.
Yes! Mid May each year there are cleanup days sponsored by the City of Buffalo and Johnson County. Look for advisements in the Spring!
